What to Expect During a DUI Arrest? A DUI arrest often begins with a traffic stop. Law enforcement officers may pull you over if they observe erratic driving, speeding, or other signs of impairment. Once stopped, the officer may ask you to perform field sobriety tests, such as walking in a straight line or standing on one leg, to assess your level of impairment. These tests are designed to give the officer a sense of whether you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If the officer suspects you are under the influence, they may administer a breathalyzer test to measure your blood alcohol concentration (BAC). In many jurisdictions, a BAC of 0.08% or higher is considered over the legal limit, leading to an arrest for DUI.
